NBC News has tapped John Reiss, the executive producer of MSNBC's “Hardball with Chris Matthews," to serve as acting EP for "Meet the Press" as Chuck Todd takes over as moderator.

"As many of you know, John has been working closely with Chuck and the team over the past several weeks to help get the new MTP off the ground, advising on everything from editorial planning to studio renovations," NBC News Senior Vice President Alex Wallace wrote in a memo to staff. "John is on loan to us from his day job as executive producer of MSNBC’s Hardball, where he has worked for nearly 7 years, following a long career at NBC News, including two years as EP of NBC Nightly News."

Reiss will replace Rob Yarin, who served as EP for the past tumultuous year under David Gregory. Yarin will remain with the show, overseeing what Wallace described as "several big MTP-related projects and initiatives." Wallace also said Yarin "will be integral to establishing a 24/7 editorial presence and ramping up our digital strategy."

Todd and Reiss' inaugural episode of "Meet the Press" is this Sunday, Sept. 7.
