Sport is played by people around the world, and there are so many different sports meaning that people with different interests and skills can play. It’s an activity that can help lift people in the direst of situations and going through the toughest of times. Sport has been played ever since records began and countries competed in competitions like the Olympics and World Cups as we still do today. Team sports are great for bringing people together, and here are a few ways that sport brings people together around the world.

Bridges the Gap Between Ethnic Groups

Many years ago, as a population we were all split into different groups based on our skin color, background and origin of birth. These different groups of people didn’t accept each other, and some saw themselves as superior because of their skin color. Sport was key in helping to bridge this gap and encouraging people to see everybody as equal. As society became more accepting, sport became better. Anybody can have a talent for sport no matter who they are so being discouraged to play because of skin color meant that our world was missing out on so many amazing players. Men and Women Play Together

Sexism was a major problem within society in previous generations, and sport has been a great way to bring the two genders together and see each other equally. Back when the Olympic games first started, women were not allowed to compete, whereas now women compete in the exact same sports as men during the games. Women’s leagues are starting up in a variety of sports all the time and we’re starting to see similar crowds turning up to the games as we do with men’s sports.

People Join Together with Sport to Raise Money for Those Who Need It

The great thing about sport is that it is a tool used to help raise money for those who need it the most in our world. People fundraise for a variety of causes by running marathons and partaking in a variety of other challenges. People’s lives have been saved and improved just through sport, which is why it is so good for our population. In the UK there is a major fundraising event called Sport Relief which takes part every 2 years. Celebrities and residents spend months fundraising by doing sporting activities. Last year the event raised over £55,000,000.

Exercise is known for releasing feel good endorphins into our bodies which is why it’s great for helping people to experience happiness even when it feels like the world is against them. Sport is something that anybody and everybody can get involved in whether you have money for equipment or not. It has helped to bring people together in the past and there is no doubt that it will continue to do so in the future.
