KIMBALL ART CENTER LOOKS FOR NEW HOME

Park City’s Community Art Center explores new locations off of Main Street after Park City’s denial of its renovation plans.

Park City, Utah – The Kimball Art Center announced today that it will not appeal Park City’s recent denial of its proposed renovation and expansion plans. Instead, the Kimball is researching several viable locations for its new building outside of Old Town Park City.

After months of working with the City to modify the Kimball’s submitted building design, Park City Planning Department officials recently announced that the latest renovation plans submitted by the Kimball Art Center were denied.

“We are disappointed with the decision,” says Robin Marrouche, Executive Director of the Kimball Art Center. “We are committed to looking at options that will allow us to serve our community. Our board feels the best action is to look for a new location. ”  Marrouche says the plan to change locations altogether has been made because it is now the best and most financially reasonable decision for the Kimball.

“We have been dedicated to making every effort to stay in Old Town because we feel the arts are a crucial piece of our local culture, and will help continue to make Park City an international destination, ” says Marrouche.  “Unfortunately, the parameters we are required to work within did not allow this to come to fruition.”

The Kimball worked extensively with city representatives for input on how to successfully move forward with a viable design. Numerous changes to the most recent design have been costly for the Kimball, and proved to be ineffective in getting the support of the city. The historic building where the Kimball operates is no longer a sustainable venue for the Kimball to serve the community.

The Kimball hopes to have an announcement on a new location in the near future.

The Kimball Art Center (KAC) is a non-profit center for the arts, committed to engaging individuals of all ages in diverse and inspiring experiences through education, exhibitions and events. For more information please visit www.kimballartcenter.org.
