Chuck Todd's inaugural episode of "Meet The Press" was the number-one Sunday public affairs program in both total viewers and the coveted 25-to-54 demo, according to Nielsen fast program ratings provided by NBC News.
Meet's ratings win, due in no small part to his exclusive interview with President Obama, marks the first time since February that the show has topped in either total or the demo. It is also a boon to Todd, the network's political director, as he begins his tenure as moderator of the program.
"We couldn't be more proud of Chuck's first show and are so appreciative of the viewers that turned to 'Meet the Press' this Sunday," an NBC News spokesperson told POLITICO. "At the same time, we know that one week does not equal a trend and expanding our regular audience will take a slow build week to week."
"Meet" averaged 2.977 million total viewers, its biggest delivery since March 2, and 804,000 viewers in the demo, per the fast ratings. CBS's "Face The Nation" came in second with 2,864 total viewers and 768,000 in the demo. ABC's "This Week" had 2,559,000 total and 763,000 in the demo. "Fox News Sunday" had 1,522,000 total and 438,000 in the demo.
Note: The fast ratings only account for the overnights. Nielsen will release the full ratings on Thursday....
