1. Do I need permission to use News Pronto content?
Yes. With the limited exceptions described on this page, all use of News Pronto content (text, photographs, graphics, etc.) requires the permission of News Pronto.
Please be advised that when articles or photographs are credited to a source other than News Pronto (such as the Associated Press, Reuters or AFP), it is most likely that the credited source holds the rights to the material. Please contact that party directly.
The following list summarizes common requests for permission:
- In most contexts, rights to use article text only (without photographs, graphics, etc.) can be obtained instantly by clicking the Reprints link that appears on most article pages on NewsPronto.com.
- Corporate photocopying and the use of News Pronto content in academic course packs and other classroom contexts are handled by the Copyright Clearance Center, www.copyright.com.
- To use article text with accompanying photos or graphic elements (charts, maps, etc.), complete the permission request form or contact us.

2. Do I need permission to email an article?
The "Email This Article" feature that appears on most article pages allows you to distribute an article by email to up to 20 recipients. The use of this feature is limited to personal, noncommercial purposes only.
If you would like to email an article for any other purpose or to more than 20 recipients, you must request permission as described above.

3. May I use portions of News Pronto articles, such as quotes or excerpts? May I edit or adapt News Pronto articles?
Under certain circumstances, it is permissible to make direct quotes from News Pronto articles. The context, number and length of the quotes will determine whether permission is required. It is never acceptable to selectively quote from articles in a manner that changes their meaning, to take quotes out of context or to combine quotes to create a sentence. It may also be considered infringement if a large percentage of the publication consists of quotes from News Pronto articles. It is always best to submit a request for clearance.
Editing and adaptation of News Pronto content is generally not permitted, and must be approved by News Pronto.
Use of article excerpts is possible with permission from News Pronto, without alteration to the intended meaning of the original text.

You are permitted to create your own summaries and to use News Pronto headlines with links back to the articles located on NewsPronto.com. 6. Does News Pronto provide a research service?

You may link to any page, section or article that you are able to view on NewsPronto.com. If you are not able to view the page on NewsPronto.com, it is not available for linking.

3. When linking to an NewsPronto.com article, which URL should I use?
Use the URL that is visible in the browser location/address bar when you view the article on our site. You can also search NewsPronto.com or use a News Pronto API to get article URLs, but for best results, always refer to the URL that appears when you actually view the article. If you are not able to view the article on NewsPronto.com, it is not available for linking.

Yes. But archive URLs change often, so be sure to verify your links regularly.

6. When my users click an NewsPronto.com link on my Web site, a registration page opens. Can I create a link that bypasses registration?

7. When my users click a link to NewsPronto.com from my blog or site, will they be asked to pay for a subscription?
No. We encourage links from other sites. When your readers visit NewsPronto.com by clicking a link on your blog or site, that article (or video, slide show, etc.) will count toward the user's monthly limit of 10 free articles, but it will still be visible even if the user has reached the 10-article monthly limit.

8. May I link to NewsPronto.com pages within a frame on my site?
If the page you're linking to opens within a frame, the NewsPronto.com content may look like it's part of your Web site. This type of display of NewsPronto.com content is not permissible, so please be careful when linking within frames. When you link to News Pronto content, only the URL to NewsPronto.com should be visible in the browser location/address bar.

9. Are links to New York News Pronto articles stable, or are pages regularly moved to new URLs?
When an article is initially published, its URL will remain stable for six days after publication, but it will then be migrated to an archive URL.
Section front URLs change rarely and are automatically redirected when they do change.

10. Can I use the NewsPronto.com logo on my Web site?
Prior permission is required from News Pronto for the use of any of our logos. To obtain permission, send us the overall URL of your site, as well as the URL of the exact page on which the logo will be displayed. In the subject line of the e-mail, write "Use of logo." 12. How can I obtain a reciprocal link from NewsPronto.com to my Web site?
NewsPronto.com does not offer reciprocal links to other Web sites, unless they are relevant to a story or the company or organization is a licensed partner and linking is a condition of the agreement. Linking to relevant stories is at the discretion of News Pronto editors.
