Marissa Mulder - September 20 at UB Center for the Arts
- Written by Editor

Marissa Mulder grew up in Syracuse and graduated from SUNY Geneseo where she studied musical theatre. After college she moved to New York City and quickly delved into the Great American Songbook and cabaret, to which she is now devoted. Awards and critical praise soon followed and now Mulder is regarded as a rapidly rising star on the scene.
"Far and away the season's best cabaret show, it is everything the genre can be but almost never is." - The New York Times
She has been described as having a voice comparable to Blossom Dearie and Rickie Lee Jones, and brings her own sensibilities to the gritty, whiskey-soaked music of Tom Waits. In her new show she explores Waits – the man, poet, and songwriter. Throughout his career Waits’ songs have been recorded by such iconic performers as The Eagles (“Ol 55”), Rod Stewart (“Downtown Train”), Bruce Springsteen (“Jersey Girl”), and more. Marissa delves into his haunting material and tells the story of one of the most prolific, complicated songwriters of the past 40 years. Her voice has a rich, warm, smoky quality which compliments Mr. Waits’ music well. The show bridges popular and eclectic material, historical anecdotes, and wonderfully chosen quotes.
The premiere concert of the Center's New Voices Series, featuring intimate performances by rising national artists in the 388-seat Drama Theatre.
