SDR Strengthens Partnership with CNET with New Free Downloads of their AVI File Converter

Eugene, OR – Software Development Resource recently strengthened its partnership with CNET, one of leading web-based download sites and tech-related review center. SDR has released four new free software versions on the platform beginning with their free AVI to MP4 converter. The product was released on their website last October 8 and went live on CNET just this October 27. It can handle any AVI files for easy conversion into the more supported MP4 format.

Audio Video Interleave Explained

Also known by its initials AVI, this file type was first introduced by Microsoft in 1992. It supports, as evident in its name, both audio and video file formats combined. This is commonly seen as a video file but these are seldom used nowadays.

It was a direct derivative of RIFF or the Resource Interchange File Format which was introduced a year earlier. It had numerous compatibility issues so it was made into other file types such as AVI for easier usage. Other file types associated with this failed format include WAV, ANI, DLS, and XmA now used by Xbox videos.

Despite its being introduced and supported by Microsoft, the AVI has its many limitations. For example, it cannot contain mp3 files, it does not support modern video compression techniques [which the MP4 format can perform], and most AVI file types do not support automatic aspect ration information and editing while on play but can be done so manually.

For users of AVI files who do not recognize its function and has been worrying much about these limitations, considering another file format for their video requirements is a must.

MP4 file format is now the current standard format for most videos used online and currently supported by the ISO. With its popularity, this file is easily used and can be the best alternative for the archaic AVI files.
