Australia has long been popular, and attracted 8.5 million international visitors last year. People from all over the world pour into Australia for the sunshine, the beaches and the laid back culture. But what is it about the country that attracts so many tourists? What should Australia go on your Australian travel bucket list?

If you’re looking for Aussie holiday ideas, you can’t go far wrong with a trip to see Uluru. Also known as Ayers Rock, this rock formation is around 600 million years old. Uluru is sacred to the Aboriginal people of the area, making this an amazing spiritual site to visit. Remember though, as Uluru is a sacred site, you should view the rock from afar, and not climb it. In fact, Australia recently made it illegal to climb Uluru in order to preserve.

If you prefer the sea to the land, then you can’t miss the Great Barrier Reef. The reef is the largest living organism in the world. In fact, it’s bigger than the entire United Kingdom, Holland and Switzerland combined! You can see some incredible marine wildlife around the reef by going either scuba diving or snorkelling.

For city clickers, Australia has great options too. Melbourne, Perth and Sydney are all very popular spots to get a feel for Australia’s cities, or you could get off the beaten track a little and visit a smaller city like St Kilda, which is full of amazing graffiti and lots of rooftop bars. Sydney is vibrant with a beach culture, while Melbourne is known for its coffee culture. Adelaide is a good pick for a coastal city, with lots of beautiful parks and beaches. If you want a quieter city, you can’t go wrong with Darwin and it’s local markets. Perth is a great combination of a food and arts scene. You can’t miss Australia’s capital, Canberra, which has beautiful architecture for you to admire.

Aussies are known for their laidback nature, making Australia welcoming, relaxed place to visit. Australia also has a vibrant art scene, a passion for sports and the outdoors, and a positive outlook on life. The vibe of the country makes it a great place to visit for a trip, especially if you want to soak up some of the famous Aussie positivity.

Australia is best known for its amazing beaches. Whether you’re looking for surfing, or a white sandy beach to sunbathe on, Australia has a beach to offer you. Some of the most famous beaches include Cable Beach, Whitehaven Beach, Four Mile Beach and Shelly Beach, to name just a few.

There's a lot to do for adventure lovers too. Australians are passionate about the outdoors, and you could do anything from surfing and snorkelling, to bungee jumping and hanggliding. Australia is a paradise for adrenaline junkies of all kinds, or just those looking to try something new and have a bit of an adventure. Explore the outback, sail in the Whitsundays or snorkel along the Great Barrier Reef.
