In 6 years, driving an electric car will be as easy as driving a petrol or diesel car. 53 companies, organisations and governments across the world have agreed that they will help to realise charging infrastructure in every city, on every street and at office's by the year 2020. This agreement has been documented in the ‘Charging Everywhere declaration’ signed by car manufactures such as Nissan, Renault and BMW, municipality Berlin and companies such as ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens.
Charging infrastructure will become a recognisable landmark on the Dutch roads. If it is up to the participants of the declarations, numerous charge points will be found in different municipalities spread across the country. Not only will it be possible to charge an electric car in residential area’s, but also in parking garages, business grounds, shopping centers, DIY stores and at restaurants.
The agreement is the outcome of an international conference focussed electric mobility, which was organised by the municipality of Amsterdam and The New Motion. Participants of attended the event, showed their support for the future plans of electric mobility and have signed the declaration. In addition to presence of governments and car manufacturers participants included energy companies, grid operators and financiers were present. The common goal is to expand the charge network in such a way that it will be just as easy for drivers of an electric vehicle to find a charge point as it is to find a petrol station in 2020.
The New Motion, the largest provider of charging stations in Europe, speaks of a big step. "The transition to sustainable mobility is necessary to reduce to create cleaner air in cities CO2 emissions and to make the large-scale transition to renewable energy as possible," says founder Ritsaart Montfrans. "For this we need from early adoption of electric vehicles into 'mass adoption'. We can only ensure that electric transport is a better alternative than the gasoline car. "
