STAR TOO Experimental Theatre Workshops commence on 11 Oct 2014

The new session of STAR TOO experimental theatre workshops commences on October 11, 2014.

STAR TOO, first experimental theatre group in the UAE, give Performance Art Training with a twist.

Under the coaching of 3 directors, STAR TOO course is designed to enhance individual express and group work through experimental theatre. Phases of the workshops include an exploration of creative thinking, an introduction to a tradition dance model (Indian classical dance), performance skills acquisition, and scope for practical application.

 Participants are led to:

1.  Learn about practitioners & historical trends in avant-garde theatre from late 19^th to 21^st century (booklets provided).

2.  Engage in exercises based on work of professional directors.

3.  Test a way of expression that is symbolic, physical, and non-linear.

4.  Apply lateral thinking, combining tradition and invention.

5.  Integrate individual ideas into group creation.

Through ensemble work and in a laboratory-theatre setting, the programme encourages:

A. Acquiring knowledge that can be applied to other artistic disciplines and genres.

B. Finding an artistic alternative to personal/professional development.

C. Getting hands-on experience with an active arts group.

STAR TOO workshops are open to all adults and levels; this is an artistic alternative to personal/ professional development. 

STAR TOO directors

Course offers participants the guidance of 3 specialists with 50-years-combined experience:

I.               Sol Abiad: M.A. Performance Bristol University, 20 years practicing director & trainer France, Canada, U.A.E., Theatre instructor Paris Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.

II.              Khawla El Hadef: 20 years practicing director & trainer Palestine, Tunisia, U.A.E., producing at National Theatre Tunis.

III.            Shereen Saifudeen: 10 years performance & apprenticeships India, U.A.E.  commissioned artist, versed in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kathak.

Timings: Oct. 11th to Dec. 13th, 2014, Saturdays 7 pm -9 pm

Duration: 10 weeks, 2-hr sessions, total 20 hours

Age: adults, all levels, actors and non-actors welcomed

Cost: AED 2,500

Materials needed: Dress code is comfortable clothing, enabling movement,.
