College students to ‘get buzzed’ for a good cause
- Written by Editor

It may be a topic of concern on college campuses, but one company and fraternity are turning “Get Buzzed” into a positive this fall.
On October 18, Wahl Clipper is challenging Kappa Sigma Fraternity and students from several area universities to get buzzed—but this time for good, as in shaving their heads--to raise money for childhood cancer research. The event takes place on the National Mall from noon to 4 p.m. and supports the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the world’s leading private funder of childhood cancer research grants.
Opportunities around this Event:
- The community is invited to attend the event, Get Buzzed themselves or donate to the cause.
- Nearly 70 students have already signed up to have their head shaved and the number is growing by the hour.
- The event is taking place on George Washington University’s parents weekend – and will provide a great visual of families coming together to support children with cancer fulfill their dreams.
- Interview with our local event organizer, Justin Hyde, a student at George Washington University, to speak about the campaign and his personal connection to it. Justin’s mom Aida passed away a few years ago from cancer and has organized this event to honor her.
- Share the story or do an interview with a St. Baldrick’s honored family; these local families have children affected by cancer.
We have great visuals to support a feature, including photos of students getting their heads shaved at past events, our campaign logo and photos of local children with cancer (honorees) that will be at the event. Here is the event page.
