Decorating for Halloween on a budget

As soon as October hits, people start to realize that the holidays aren’t just coming but are upon us. Every month until the end of the year, you have some sort of holiday decorations that need to get set up. The only problem is that the cost of redecorating your home every month can be a little much, especially if you are hoping to have a good Christmas this year. Fortunately, you can decorate for Halloween on a budget by trying these frugal ideas courtesy of Citizens Voice.
Pick a theme
Would you rather go scary or fun? This will be the first decision you have to make, since you’ll need to pick up decorations associated with your theme or decide what crafts to do base on the idea. Most people like a good mixture of both, but you don’t want a freaky looking zombie on your front porch if you’re trying not to scare the kids away, and you’ll probably want to avoid happy, smiling pumpkins if you’re trying to get a big fright out of them.
Make due with what you already have
One thing you can do is find decorations you already have and typically use for other holidays and use them for your Halloween decor. For example, Citizens Voice suggests using a small holiday tree that you would typically put out front for Christmas and putting a witch’s hat and cape on it. Or you can wrap practically anything in toilet paper to get a makeshift zombie to put on the porch. By re-using other decorations in your home, you’ll save a lot of money.
Go to the dollar store
You’d be surprised at how many great decorating gems you can find for so cheap by just shopping at the dollar store. Instead of trying to find decorations at your local grocery or outlet store, just go to the dollar store, spend a few bucks, and place your decorations around for everyone to see! You’ll save a lot of money and won’t have to worry about matching your neighbors.
Spray paint and bottles
Another great idea is to use leftover bottles and spray paint to create decorations. You can use yellow, orange, and white to create candy corn or spray with black and put on wings to give the illusion of bats. Whatever you do, it is sure to look great and is very frugal!
