The Dream of Britannia
- Written by Pitch Engine
The Norwegian sailor Sigurd Coates spent 20 years to completely rebuild from scratch a replica of the 19th century Royal Yacht Britannia. In her prime and until she was scuppered off the Isle of Wight in 1936, Britannia was the fastest yacht in her class, winning most of the races. Together with 100 workers in Solombala Shipyard in Archangel, Russia, he started the work just after the collapse of the Sovjet Union. The project posed daunting challenges, and very special problems arrived. When is leaving a dream the braver choice?
The fascinating story is told by film director Ann Coates who has followed her brother's project from its beginning.
